A Little Re Cap for your car.

What happens in the middle of the night when your car breaks down on the side of the road? When you need to change a flat tyre in a dark parking lot? Or when you lose your keys or phone between the seat and the console?

Image result for flashlight for your car when stuck

You’re going to end up fumbling around in the dark unless you have a flashlight handy. In that case, you have no problem getting under the hood, changing that tyre or finding your keys.

A flashlight is an essential part of any emergency preparedness kit; in fact, it is one of the most important items to have when roadside assistance is too far away to help.

But, what is the best flashlight for your car? Let’s look at what a quality emergency flashlight for the car possesses:

- Convenient Size
The ideal flashlight for your car is lightweight and small. You want a flashlight that can easily fit in your glove box or inside your emergency kit in your boot.

- Long Battery Life
Batteries eventually lose their charge, and there is no way to know when or how often you will need to use your emergency flashlight, but when you do use it, you want it to work without fail!

- Easy to Recharge
Ideally you want a flashlight that is easy to recharge, preferably one that can be charged directly from your car or computer. Even if your car doesn’t have a USB adapter, there are easy adapters that transform the traditional “cigarette lighter” into a powerful USB charging port.

- Durable
A cheap, plastic flashlight won’t survive the impact of a car accident. It might not even survive daily wear and tear in your glove box or boot. It’s very important for your emergency flashlight to work all the time.

- Bright
Have you ever turned on a flashlight that’s beam is so dim it’s almost useless? You definitely don’t want that to happen on the side of the road, in the dark! Make sure your emergency flashlight offers at least 250 lumens of brightness.

Four things you can do before changing you LED

LED’s are amazing, they can last almost forever. Well, not forever, but they can last for up to 50 00 hours, now that’s a long time! 50 000 hours is approximately 5.7 years, so what exactly could you do in that amount of time?

What could you accomplish before the LED in your flashlight died? Here are a few examples.

Image result for flashlights

MASTER FIVE DISCIPLINES
It takes a lot of practice and effort to master a specific discipline or subject. It takes about 10 000 hours of deliberate study and practice to master any subject, so in the time it takes your LED to burn out, you can master it

SAIL AROUND THE WORLD
In a personal cruising style sailboat it will take about two years to sail around the globe! You could definitely go around the world twice and get close to a third time by the time you need to get to land and buy a new LED.

WALK THE ENTIRE GREAT WALL OF CHINA.
How about walking the world’s longest man-made structure? Well, to walk the Great Wall of China it’ll take about 18 months. If you walked at a fast pace, you could go back and forth twice before you had to buy another LED to light your way at night.

GO TO MARS
With the current technology, it takes seven months to reach Mars. That means it’ll take 14 months to make round trip, So, you can make the trip four times, and if you time it just right you can even sneak in another trip before you LED light goes out.

How to look after your tactical flashlight properly

Nothing is more frustrating when you really, really need your tactical flashlight and you find out that it’s not working anymore.

To avoid being in this situation you have to make a routine where you look after your tactical flashlight properly so it is always ready at a moment’s notice.

Image result for tactical flashlight

Always make sure all dirt, dust, grime and water are wiped off of the outside case of the tactical flashlight. Use a soft cloth and try not to dent or damage material. Check your tactical flashlight to ensure that all threads on the body of the light and the head are clean and dry.

Always check the battery compartment for signs of leakage or corrosion. It’s best to remove and inspect the batteries after each use. Never leave the batteries inside your tactical flashlight when you know you won’t be using it for a long. Check the overall condition of the flashlight. Are there any cracks or holes? Is the power switch damaged? For a quick fix use tape!

The condition of the glass over the bulb is also important. Make sure to clean and polish it and check for any cracks. Don’t forget to examine the bulb and LED itself. If there are any broken or discolored wires, replace immediately. Do you have a lanyard on your tactical flashlight? If so, check it for any frays and make sure I is secure. The cord is the only thing holding your flashlight from falling.

Rust and corrosion can really damage your tactical flashlight, so coat the outside of your flashlight with silicone grease when you can. If you don’t use your tactical flashlight on a regular basis, wrap it up in a soft cloth to protect it and store it somewhere safe.

Even if you don’t often use your flashlight, make it a habit to check it and ensure that it is working properly. Maintaining your torch won’t take a lot of time and effort. You will be thankful you looked after it when you need it in an emergency and it works effectively!

The most important features a Tactical Torch should always have!

When tactical flashlights are researched and tested, you have to look at a lot of different things. For a wide range of grade-A tactical torches and other flashlights, take a look at Klarus Light’s website.

Here are some of the things any real tactical flashlight should always have:

Runs on AA batteries
- It is the most common battery in the world. In a survival situation this is very good. A great flashlight is no good at all if you can’t turn it on.

Ultra Durable
- This is kind of self-explanatory. If your flashlight is broken or it breaks easily, it just becomes a torch-shaped paperweight.

Chipped
- Chipped flashlights are more efficient with batteries as they are electronically controlled and run longer and brighter. They will hold brightness over time and then dim quickly at the end of the battery’s life-cycle.

Latest LED Diodes

- Each flashlight has to run on the latest or very close to the latest LED diodes. LED tech has gotten to the point where you can have super bright lights that last a very long time.

Multiple Modes
- Each flashlight should have at least one bright mode (to blind attackers), a mid-range mode (for everyday tasks) and a low light mode (for night use or super long life).

Reputation
- It’s important that the flashlight you choose has a solid reputation and has proven to be effective in the field time and time again. If you're looking for a tactical torch with an amazing reputation throughout the globe, take a look at www.klaruslight.co.za and place your order today!

Anytime a company or brand claims they have the best product you always have to do your research. Make sure you go through these six things and make sure your tactical torch has them!

The different types of flashlight reflectors

The design of a flashlight reflector makes a big difference in the way the light beam is emitted by the flashlight. Without a reflector, the light would spread in all directions, like a candle. There are several different types of reflectors, each with their advantages. Here are a few…

Smooth Reflector

The smooth reflector is the most common type used in your average flashlights. The beam put out by this type of reflector is usually full of “rings and holes”, meaning rings of light and patches of darkness. Some of the better smooth reflectors put out a decent beam of light, but most don’t.

Course Faceted Reflector
In a course faceted reflector, the facets all act like tiny little mirrors, sending the spot of light in the same direction. This usually results in a very nice, smooth beam which does not need focusing.

Fine Faceted Reflectors

The facets in this reflector are much finer than those in a course faceted reflector. The finer the facets, the smoother the beam will be!

Spiral Faceted Reflector

The facets of a spiral faceted reflector have the same effect as the faceted reflectors, above, but the fine facets in a tight spiral help it achieve a smoother beam.

Hybrid Reflector

This reflector contains faceting, but only near the bulb. This helps to get rid of the central “hole” found in the beam from the most smooth reflectors. It’s a way to produce a decent beam without the expense of making the reflectors fully faceted.

Textured Reflector

This last one is called many things, including “textured” or like an orange peel. This is considered by some to be the ultimate faceted reflector. Instead of facets, there is a gentle texture on the reflector that again projects a very smooth beam with little or no “rings and holes”. This type of reflector is usually found in better quality lights.

When you’re stuck in the dark you’ll not only feel scared, but you’ll be confused and possibly in full panic mode, this will make you an easy target for criminals.

Klarus Light designs and manufactures some of the most innovative, exciting LED tactical torches in the world. If you’re looking for a torch in South Africa that will last you a lifetime, place your order from Klarus today.

Picture this, you’re stuck in a dark, dangerous situation and you need to stay safe and feel safe. Having a reliable, tactical LED torch is vital to keep on your person at all times. Here’s how your LED tactical torch can save your life one day!

Light up the shadows. The bad guys love to hide in the cover of darkness. The best way to spot them is to use your tactical torch to light up the shadows and stop a criminal attacking you. Use your LED torch when you’re walking in dark areas and you’ll feel safer as well as be safer. Everyone knows criminals hate the light!

Defend yourself. A reliable LED tactical torch, such as one from Klarus can be used as a weapon if you are ever attacked. Here’s how to hold your torch correctly when you want to use it as a weapon.
- Point your fingers towards the bulb of the torch
- Invert your fist
- Hold the torch and the bulb should be pointing away from your thumb

When you hold your torch this way you can swing your torch around like a baton to protect yourself.

SOS signals. If you are ever lost somewhere in the dark or stranded alone, make use of your LED tactical torch! Many people who were walking in a forest or camping out and got lost have used their torch to signal SOS or attract search and rescue teams to assist in finding them. Three fast pulse of your torch will signal that you need help.

Protect against a wild animal. If you are ever hiking or camping in an area that is known to have wild and possibly dangerous animals around, always keep your LED torch on hand. A blinding flash of light in an animal’s eyes will potentially blind them and hopefully chase them away or give you some time to escape the situation.

Don’t get stuck in the dark with a tactical torch that’s not working anymore! How do you avoid being caught up in this scenario? All you have to do is know the correct way to maintain your tactical torch at all times.

Use these important steps to ensure that your tactical torch is always ready to be used.

     2.       Be sure to check the battery compartment of your tactical torch on a regular basis to ensure there are no battery leaks or possible corrosion occurring.

     3.       Once you have used your tactical torch, take out your batteries. DO NOT leave the batteries in your tactical torch, especially if you know you are going to store your tactical torch away for a long period of time.

How to choose the perfect tactical police torch

Have you ever asked yourself why a tactical torch is called tactical? Well, it is because the tactical torch’s main job is to aide tactical forces and one of the most popular uses for a tactical torch is the police force!

In this day and age, tactical torches are not only used as police torches but also by regular people. However one of the most popular markets for a tactical torch is the police, military, hikers, etc.

So why does a police officer need his police torch to be a tactical torch? When you’re in the police force, your tactical torch needs to be of high-quality, plus it needs to be durable and easy to use under stressful situations.

What are the most important features when it comes to choosing the perfect tactical police torch?

Lumens – A police torch needs to be bright! Why? Because police officers need to spot criminals, assist in search and rescue missions and even potentially blind an attacker.

Beams – A police torch needs to have a high beam throw. If they are doing a general patrol then they won’t need the beam distance to be very far, however, if they are in a rural place, possibly searching a field, etc. they will need the beam distance on their police torch to be fairly far.

Battery – Police officers have long shifts, so they’ll need their police torch to last, especially if they do not have access to a charger.

Durable – A police officer has a dangerous job, so their police torch needs to able to resist possible impacts as well as not get damaged during tussles, different weather situations and being dropped from heights.

Size – A police torch needs to be the correct weight, not too heavy, as a police officer often has a lot of other items that he needs to carry with him on the job. Just because it is conveniently sized doesn’t mean it can’t be a powerful police torch! Take a look at the range on www.klaruslight.co.za

What are lumens?

When you’re searching for a tactical flashlight to purchase, you’ll often run into the word “lumens”, the basic definition of the term lumens is the amount of light that is generated from a torch or bulb.

Lumens describe the output of light that your flashlight provides. So when you’re shopping for your next tactical torch, you should also take note of the lumen output according to the type of flashlight you want to buy.

Overall, having a basic knowledge of what lumens are and the amount you need for the flashlight suited for your needs will assist you when it comes to choosing between a range of torch models.

If you’re looking for a high-quality tactical torch you’ll need to get one that has a lumen output of anything over 100 lumens.

Should you be looking for a small, lightweight tactical torch that is perfect for every day carry, the Klarus Mi7 and the Klarus Mi7 Ti have a max lumen output of 700LM.

The Klarus HA2C is a multifunctional torch with an amazing lumen output of 3200 lumens, however, if you’d like the power of the sun in your hand then the Klarus XT21X is perfectly suited for you with a whopping lumen output of 4000 lumens!

Well, for one, you are going to end up fumbling around in the dark – unless – you have a high-quality, reliable torch on hand. If you do, then you won’t have any trouble sorting out your issues or signalling for help.

A good quality torch is an important part of your emergency kit, in your home as well as in your car. Actually it is probably one of the most important items to keep around for road side assistance.

How long will the Batteries last in your LED Torch?

When you buy yourself an LED torch light, you need to know how long the battery is going to last.
Why is it so important? Because when you are out on a hike, camping trip, stranded on the side of the road or doing your job – the last thing you want to happen is for your LED torch light’s battery to die out! Then you’ll be stuck out in the dark without any way of seeing anything or signalling for help.

This is the reason why knowing how long your battery in your LED torch light is going to last is so important.

Your LED torch light’s battery can last for as long as 30 minutes to a few hours, and one of the factors that can change your battery’s life span is how high quality they are.

But there are other factors that can influence the run time of your LED torch light:

Brightness – It depends on what LED torch light you own, but it is possible to adjust the brightness setting. Obviously, the highest setting will drain your battery the fastest, so make sure you’re using the right brightness setting to not use up all your battery life.

Temperature – Coldness, humidity and heat can all affect the overall time your LED torch light battery will last. Why? Because these temperatures can cause your torch battery to stop working efficiently.

Do you know what red LED flashlights are used for?

Some of the most common uses for a red LED flashlight or filter is stargazing, hunting with a night vision scope, or military operations. This is because the red light that is emitted from this flashlight is more visible at night time than other colours of flashlight bulbs. It may still be used during the day for signalling, reading maps, and other tasks.

Looking for a red LED filter for your flashlight? Order yours today from the Klarus website, email sales@klaruslight.co.za or call 0607 222 222 today! The filter screws securely into the front of the torch when the strike bezel has been unscrewed and removed, so there's no way of the filter dropping off and being lost.

A red filter is most commonly used for hunting and spotting animals, since many animals cannot see well in the red spectrum. Red light also preserves our natural night vision and is effective at providing better visibility in fog and smoke.

Members of the military often use a red LED flashlight when conducting night operations. This is because the red light helps them navigate in remote areas that cannot usually be seen from a great distance. As a result, service members can complete their mission while simultaneously reducing their chances of being spotted by the enemy.

People sometimes use a red LED flashlight for stargazing. This is because looking for constellations should be done in complete darkness whenever possible, yet some light is needed in order to reach an optimum viewing spot. Using this red flashlight can help people get into position safely without creating light pollution that would reduce the number of visible stars.

A red LED flashlight does not have to be used at night time. One that has a cone-shaped head is often used to park cars at sporting events. It may also be used by emergency workers to direct traffic whenever there has been an automobile accident, whether at night or during the day. This is done by moving the flashlight back and forth in the direction cars need to travel.

Do you know how to use a Self Defence Flashlight?

Using your flashlight to potentially and temporarily blind an attacker is a two-step process – you need the light to blind or disorientate and then you have a few seconds to spare to plan your next move.
At this point of the attack, you have a few options to choose from depending on what situation you are in…

Related image

>> Run and get out of the area
>> If you cannot escape, strike the attacker with your flashlight
>> Use your weapon if the flashlight is attached to it

Keep in mind that when you blind someone with your flashlight it is only temporary, so you will need to think quickly and take some form of action. If you can run away this would be your best move, especially in an area where you can get help.

The same thing goes with a wild animal, they can attack and run after you are a high speed, so in order to escape you need a tactical light which you can use to disorientate them and then move to a hiding spot or safe place.

If you are unable to run away, then the next best thing would be to strike the attacker with the butt of your flashlight – firing a weapon (if you have one) should always be your last resort!

Before you make a purchase you need to make sure your flashlight meets certain standards:

        1.       The output should be at least 300 lumens
        2.       Can be used to physically strike
        3.       Lower settings for night navigation

Klarus has a wide range of tactical flashlights you can use as a self defence weapon. Here are some of the best to choose from:

4 Important reasons why women should ALWAYS carry a Flashlight

You may be thinking, why is it so important for me to carry around a flashlight when I could just use the one on my phone? Well, your phone’s flashlight may provide you with some illumination, but a high-quality tactical flashlight can provide you with so much more…

Related image

Here are 4 reasons why it is vital that all women should carry a flashlight with them:

1. Situational Awareness
There is crime everywhere, no matter where you live, so it is always safer to brighten your path at night, especially as you walk to your front door or your car. A reliable tactical flashlight (www.klaruslight.co.za) will keep your aware of your surroundings where you are walking on campus, taking a night jog or walking in a parking garage.

2. Self-Defence
Experts all agree that a tactical flashlight is a great tool to protect yourself from potential attackers. Women may be seen as an easy target, a powerful flashlight, can stun and harm someone allowing a safe escape.  Another plus is that you do not need a permit and there are no laws against carrying a flashlight.

3. Emergency Tool
Emergency situations happen to all of us, this is why it is vital that you have a tactical flashlight on hand that offers a range of helpful features such as an emergency SOS mode or strobe. Carry your flashlight with you in your handbag or car and you’ll be able to use it as a helpful tool during an emergency. Note: Keep fresh batteries in your emergency flashlight!

4. Every Day Use
A flashlight can be used as a device to keep you safe, however it is also very useful for simple everyday tasks such as taking the dog for a walk, going on a hiking trip, searching in your purse for something and finding that tiny hairclip you dropped on the floor.

A reliable tactical flashlight is a convenient, easy-to-carry tool that you can keep in your handbag, on your keychain and even in your pocket. Looking for an affordable, but stylish flashlight? What is the Perfect Size Flashlight for your needs?

Weight can play a big role when it comes to deciding what tactical torch is perfectly suited for you. If the flashlight weighs quite a bit then this generally means it is bigger in size and provides more power, however a larger, heavier flashlight may not necessarily offer a better level of brightness than a smaller, lighter counterpart.

For those who need a larger flashlight…

Larger, heavier tactical flashlights are perfect for home use or camping when weight and size are not so important. They are also excellent for the car, boat or even your emergency bag. Many security and law enforcement professionals favour the larger models because they can be used as a self-defence weapon.

BUT, bigger is not always better! If you are going to be carrying around your flashlight for a long period of time, then investing in a large tactical flashlight might not be your best option. Always be sure to evaluate a variety of weights and models before you decide on the right one for you.

Looking for a larger tactical flashlight? Take a look at the Klarus XT30R

For those who need a smaller flashlight…

Small, lightweight flashlights are ideal for those who engage in activities covering long distances, such as backpackers and hikers. They love small flashlights because they don’t take up much space, they don’t add weight to their backpacks and they’ve still powerful enough to illuminate a trail.

Keep a lightweight tactical flashlight in your car, your emergency kit or even in your handbag or pocket. Your choice of tactical flashlight is entirely a matter of personal choice.

When you are out and about in the wilderness, a simple hiking or camping trip can turn into a fight for survival. Because of the unpredictability of the outside world, injuries, changes in the weather, an encounter with an aggressive animal or a silly navigation mistake can put you in the middle of an emergency situation.

Luckily, having a tactical torch on hand can save your life! By knowing how to use your flashlight to signal for help, you can increase your chances of being found before the situation becomes dire.

Step 1 – It is vital that you are seen

Is your tactical torch powerful enough to be seen from a far distance? Can it penetrate through the darkness to be seen from the air as well as on the ground? You need a high-powered LED beam that can be spotted from miles away – you need a high-quality tactical torch from Klarus!

Step 2 – Signal for help

Send brief blasts of light by turning your torch on and off, not only will this signal for help but it will also help to conserve your battery life. Three flashes in a row will generally indicate to any onlooker that you’re in need of help. You can also use the Morse code signal for distress, which is three short blasts, three long blasts and three more short ones.

Step 3 – Stay put & wait for help

If you’ve been spotted you may be tempted to move towards your rescuers – do not move! Wandering around will increase your chance of not being found and likely get you injured. Instead of panicking, stay calm, wait for them to come to you and continue to signal with your flashlight.
