How long will the Batteries last in your LED Torch?


When you buy yourself an LED torch light, you need to know how long the battery is going to last.
Why is it so important? Because when you are out on a hike, camping trip, stranded on the side of the road or doing your job – the last thing you want to happen is for your LED torch light’s battery to die out! What does Flashlight Runtime depend on?

When we look at a flashlight, there are many different factors that can decide a flashlights runtime. Let’s take a look at how some of these factors affect it…

-- Brightness. A flashlights runtime is generally measured when it is on the highest brightness mode, so you can increase the runtime by using a lower brightness setting.

-- Ambient Temperature. If you’re going to be using your torch in extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures make sure you know that the performance of your batteries will change.

-- Type of Battery. Some batteries are more effective than others and will change the runtime of your flashlight quite dramatically. The better quality the batteries are and the larger they are the longer they will power the flashlight.

Whether you’re busy camping or simply using your flashlight when the power goes out, the last thing you want is a dim, flickering light. Make sure you steer clear of these unfortunate situations and remember runtime when you buy a flashlight.

The world’s brightest flashlight

Brightness is usually indicated in lumens, which is a measure of the total output of a light source. A classic mini Maglite flashlight peaks at around 15 lumens. A typical LED headlamp puts out around 50 to 100 lumens, and a 100Watt light bulb clocks in at around 1,750 lumens.

The world’s brightest and most powerful flashlight from Wicked Lasers is called The Torch and it blinds all the competition with a whopping 4,100 lumens – that’s enough power to cook an egg or set paper on fire!

Here are some examples of lumens to compare to the Torch:

- A dinner candle provides about 12 lumens
- A 1 million candle power spotlight 580 lumens

Back to the Torch. It is a compact, handheld little devil that powers a 100Watt halogen bulb with a rechargeable battery system specifically designed for the Torch. The casing is made from military grade aluminum, with a simple push-button on/off switch at the base. 

But, it’s not exactly the most practical torch. The extreme heat from the bulb causes the metal casing to become dangerously hot within a few minutes.
